Today, that legacy continues with wonderful food, made from scratch and organic when possible, served daily from 7am to 9pm. Inspired by local agriculture, food is sourced locally, featuring Certified Angus Beef and Agristar Potatoes. The Geiser Grand team is led by Chef Pedro, who’s been with the Hotel for fifteen years, is pretty serious about their food. So imagine their delight when Country Magazine chose to showcase the Geiser Grand’s food in the August/September issue!

Country Magazine, a member of the Readers Digest publication family, enjoys a 1.6 million paid subscriber base and is distributed nationwide at Barnes and Noble and other major outlets. The August/September issue features Eastern Oregon on the cover, with a multipage pictorial on Eastern Oregon and the Geiser Grand Hotel. Country Magazine choose to focus on the Geiser Grand because of the Geiser’s emerging reputation for excellence in food as well as the Hotels’ emphasis on honoring heritage and authenticity, which is in sync with Country readers values.

The Geiser Grand Hotel is celebrating by throwing an Open House Tuesday August 24, from 5-6:30pm. The entire community is invited to come enjoy tastes of each of the five featured recipes, and to congratulate Chef Pedro and his team on their success. No reservation is needed, there’s no charge, and all ages are welcome. The Aug/Sept issue Country Magazine is on sale in the Geiser Gift Shop.

WHAT:

A long-missed landmark that graced the top of Baker City’s Geiser Grand Hotel for over a hundred years will be restored to its place of honor on Flag Day, Monday, June 14. Ash Grove Cement is helping raise the iconic American flag back atop the hotel’s distinctive tower in response to repeated citizen requests made over the years. A violent windstorm knocked down the flag and pulley assembly that held it in place. Ash Grove arranged for a giant crane to come in from La Grande to fix the pulley system so the flag could be raised.

Baker City’s American Legion Post 41 will lead a ceremony to honor the American flag on its first raising. Civic groups and local organizations, plus members of the public are invited to attend. Wearing red, white and blue or other patriotic attire is encouraged.

WHO:

Terry Kerby, Ash Grove Cement Durkee plant manager

Barbara Sidway, owner of the Geiser Hotel
